Home products vary widely in shape, purpose, construction, and measuring method. Use the product page as the primary source for exact dimensions.

How to Measure Your Space

Measure Width, Height, and Depth

Use a rigid tape measure where possible. Record the available width, height, and depth at more than one point because walls, floors, alcoves, and openings may not be perfectly square.

Check Access Routes

Measure every part of the delivery route, including:

  • External gates and paths.
  • Door frames and security doors.
  • Hallways and corners.
  • Staircases and landings.
  • Lifts and lift doors.
  • Ceiling clearance.

The product itself may fit the final location while its packaging does not fit the access route.

Allow Operating Clearance

Leave enough space for doors, drawers, lids, cables, ventilation, cleaning, and safe movement. Product dimensions may not include the additional space needed to operate or maintain the item.

Check Walls, Floors, and Surfaces

Before placing, hanging, or installing a product, confirm that the relevant wall, fixing, floor, shelf, bench, or surface can safely support it. Obtain qualified installation assistance where required.

Soft Furnishings and Textiles

For cushions, covers, rugs, curtains, and similar products:

  • Check whether dimensions refer to the product laid flat, filled, stretched, or installed.

  • Allow for reasonable variation in flexible or handmade materials.
  • For curtains and window coverings, measure both the opening and the intended coverage area.

Storage and Containers

External dimensions describe the space the product occupies; internal dimensions describe usable storage space. These are not interchangeable. Check opening dimensions, lid clearance, handles, wheels, and stacking requirements.

Décor and Handmade-Look Products

Natural grain, glaze, texture, colour, pattern placement, and hand-finished details may vary. Small variations are not necessarily dimensional defects, but products must still comply with applicable descriptions and Australian consumer guarantees.

Measurement Tolerances
